Timber Communities Australia (TCA) is the national grassroots community organisation. TCA's mission is to ensure a sustainable future for our rural and regional communities, through the encouragement of a sensible and balanced use of our forests for the benefit of all Australians.
TCA attracts membership from both city and rural communities, and provides a national, independent voice for all people concerned about the future management of our forests.
TCA has over thirteenteen thousand members across Australia. There are over 76 regional branches in Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory. Local branches are organised and run by volunteers who are committed to the future of Australia’s rural timber communities and the economic and social wellbeing that the forest and timber industry supports within these communities.
Many of the TCA members work or live in communities which depend on forests and understand the importance of environmental, economic and social sustainability.
TCA and its members care about and are committed to;
- the future of rural communities ;
- individuals and their families who are employed in the timber industry;
- sustainable forest management; and
- the multiple use of Australia’s working forests – which includes timber harvesting, recreation (walking your dog, riding your horse, mountain and trail bike riding, 4WDing, bushwalking, rock climbing, picnicking, camping, organized rally driving, sled dogging, etc), bee keeping, licenced plant collecting, timber collection (for working with timber or firewood) - these are just a few examples of the many uses Australians have for their working forests.
